The upscale community of Del Mar is located just a half-hour drive up Interstate 5 from San Diego, the state´s second-largest city and perhaps its most colorful. This very fortunate placement means that Del Mar´s 4,500 residents enjoy a cozy small-town atmosphere while not forfeiting any of the amenities of living in the big city. The community has an interesting history that dates back to the railroad expansion of the late 19th century. Since 1920 it has grown into one of the most beautiful resort spots on the West Coast. The economy is strong, fueled by local shops, resorts, and the like and also by the nearby biotech and wireless communication industries of San Diego. Award-winning schools are administered by Del Mar Union and San Dieguito school districts. Many opportunities for higher education are available within a half hour´s drive including the University of California, San Diego; the University of San Diego; and San Diego State University. Recreational opportunities also abound, including dozens of golf courses, expansive beaches, art festivals, great surfing, and the many cultural offerings of San Diego´s North County Coast. On most Tuesday evenings, Powerhouse Park hosts a well-attended sunset music festival. Del Mar boasts one of the most agreeable climates in the western United States. Winter temperatures rarely dip below 60 degrees and summer temperatures peak in the low 90s. Del Mar real estate offerings consist primarily of lovely single-family homes for sale or estates, many with spectacular ocean views. Condos and townhouses for sale can also be found within and around the community. Del Mar offers a unique life style and some of the best beaches in Southern California.
Del Mar Home Prices
Most of the Del Mar real estate opportunities are single-family detached homes for sale. The area is quite affluent and the real estate options reflect that. Most homes for sale are large, ranging from three to seven bedrooms, with private lots. The average price is just under $2 million, with home prices ranging from the mid $700,000´s to just over $15 million for prime beachfront homes and estate properties. There are also some condominiums and townhouses available for sale, with prices ranging from the low-$400,000s into the millions. Of course, in a resort area such as this, any number of homes include beachfront and golf course lots. Others include views of the hills, the ocean and nearby lagoons. Land lots for estate custom building are very limited. Contact Steve at (858)243-4650 or email at Steve@SteveRoth.com for a free list of homes available in your price range.
